Some think it's because it looks nicer. Others say it's because it gives your skiing a softer 'feel'. Still others speculate that the grooves provide better grip, because on a completely polished surface you would just slide away. Some of these ideas are already on the right track. But what exactly is the explanation for this phenomenon?
