On Future Day, we give schoolchildren the opportunity to experience their parents' world of work at Bucher Hydraulics.
The Future Day takes place on the second Thursday of November each year. At Bucher Hydraulics in Frutigen, Future Day means introducing children in grades 5 to 8 to their parents' occupational world, and turning it into an adventure.
Much more than just dull theory
Watched over by trainers and apprentices, 18 interested young people went to various workstations and got an understanding of the company and the career opportunities at Bucher Hydraulics. They were able to plan, supervise and produce their own workpiece, a metal dice, through all the phases of the production process (development, process organisation, logistics, and manufacturing).
The parents' world of work at Bucher Hydraulics
Our guests spent the afternoon with their parents at their workplace. They looked over their shoulders and experienced how a day in their parents' occupational life at Bucher Hydraulics is organized.
The life of the parents is the book in which the children read.
– Augustinus Aurelius
Parents motivate, support, and give comfort when needed
The choice of careers is huge – but under the Christmas tree will be that No. 1 Job! Parents are the most important companions on this journey.
The Future Day prompts conversations in which parents contribute their own experiences with regard to career choice and everyday working life. Right from an early age, parents' values and ideas have an influence on their children. The children shape and mould them in their own thinking: Parents advise, help, support and promote self-belief.
In the 'Family – School – Career' study, the University of Zurich interviewed over 1000 young people, their parents and their teachers at regular intervals on the subject of career choice and career entry. The study shows that parents' active participation in the process of finding the right follow-on solution is very important.
