The Application Engineer is responsible for developping hydraulic control systems across a diverse range of products and applications.You will
- Develop creative solutions to help further grow Bucher sales, including hydraulic system layouts, valve configurations, cost-effective design alternatives, and troubleshooting support.
- Work closely with all Bucher personnel and facilities to coordinate projects and new opportunities to gain new business, ensuring manufacturability, appropriate lead times, and alignment with customer performance requirements.
- Work closely with the Regional Sales Managers to meet customer and project needs, with a heavier focus on supporting Regional Sales in the Western USA.
- Consider competitive/market price, potential volume, cost to manufacture, and manufacturability while collaborating with internal cost estimating and inside sales teams to support accurate quoting.
- Provide presentation materials that explain the Bucher products and/or services to the OEM and Distributor customers, including schematics, system sizing explanations, and technical justification for product selection.
- Take ownership of projects for customers from concept/RFQ stages through prototype, validation, and production launch.
- Work with design engineering teams to further develop new products, providing field feedback, application insights, and test results to guide product improvements.
- Support customers on site during start-ups and/or performance issues and document findings for internal follow-up and continuous improvement.
- Integrate Bucher manufactured products into different hydraulic systems such as open-loop, closed-loop, mobile, industrial, proportional, and load-sensing systems.
- Accompany sales team members on sales calls for technical assistance when needed, especially within Western USA OEMs and distributor partners.
- Some international travel to relevant Bucher facilities as well as domestic travel across the Western United States (~50%).
- Update customer/project details in the CRM system.
Your Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or certified fluid specialist certification is highly preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in fluid power
- Innovative thinker
- Appropriate technical/mechanical aptitude (Hands-On)
- An outstanding work ethic; self-starter
- Ability to adapt to constantly changing project parameters
- Must be innovative, creative and aggressive!
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- CAD Experience (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.), sufficient for reviewing models, evaluating space claims, and supporting system integration.
- Strong ability to read hydraulic schematics and interpret system documentation.
- Experience working directly with OEM, distributor, or integrator customers.
- Familiarity with ERP and CRM tools
