WorldSkills is the world's largest professional skills competition. Young professionals from numerous countries compete against each other and demonstrate their expertise on the international stage. WorldSkills 2026 will take place in Shanghai. Taking part is Manuel Nussbaumer, certified polymechanic EFZ at Bucher Hydraulics AG in Neuheim (Canton of Zug).

His qualification emphasizes the importance of sound vocational training and demonstrates the potential of committed young professionals.

With the journey to the WorldSkills, what counts is staying on the ball, training, and constantly taking on new challenges.

WorldSkills – the international skills championship

Every two years, the best young professionals from around the world compete in different disciplines. The contests include the areas of craftsmanship, industry, technology, and service.

Many participants qualify for WorldSkills through national competitions. In Switzerland, they take part in SwissSkills, the largest skills competition in the country. Here, young talents from different disciplines compete against each other in 92 professions and demonstrate how diverse and challenging vocational training is.

Manuel Nussbaumer also took this route – with success.

The certified polymechanic EFZ was able to beat off strong competition at SwissSkills 2025 and win the title of Swiss Champion in CNC Milling.

The competition required the highest levels of precision, concentration, and technical knowledge.

These are exactly the skills that are needed for the polymechanic profession. His success meant that Manual qualified to take part in WorldSkills 2026.

Apprenticeships at Bucher Hydraulics

Taking part in national and international competitions also shows how important apprenticeships are at Bucher Hydraulics. At the Swiss locations, the company trains apprentices in different technical and commercial professions and supports them on their career path.

Over the past few years, several apprentices from Bucher Hydraulics have qualified for SwissSkills.

Qualifying is not just about specialist knowledge. Autonomy, team work, and pleasure in tackling technical challenges also play an important role.

Manuel Nussbaumer's success highlights how committed apprentices, experienced trainers, and a supportive working environment can have a combined effect.

Preparing for WorldSkills

There is still time for intensive preparation ahead of the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai. Manuel is currently focused entirely on training and is preparing specifically to tackle the challenging tasks of the international competition.

He is receiving expert support from Silvio Tönz from the SwissSkills National Team, a specialist who is preparing him for WorldSkills.

At the same time, he is supported from within Bucher Hydraulics in Neuheim.

Trainers and colleagues are working to ensure that he can concentrate on preparing for the competition and that he has access to the necessary materials for his training.

A glimpse at Shanghai

The WorldSkills competition shows how important it is to have sound vocational training and committed young professionals.

Bucher Hydraulics is supporting Manuel Nussbaumer on his journey to WorldSkills 2026.

In the coming months, the company will report in its NewsBlog and on its social media channels about Manuel's preparation and his experience on his way to Shanghai.
